Otome Games Should Totally Be Illegal 

Do you remember the first moment when you discovered anime? It was like a whole new world, a completely different universe was opened up to you.  Well when I first discovered the realm of otome games less than two weeks ago, that experience was definitely similar.  This time, however, there was only one glaring difference.  This time I was thinking: "WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK IS THIS?!"

                        

What is my thesis for this post? Otome games are god-fucking awful and a detriment to society, therefore they should be abolished forever.  To translate that for you, what I mean to say is: "I'm spending too much money and time on these games please help me".

Ok, I'll admit it.  When I first discovered otome games existed, I was intrigued.  I spent the next couple hours scanning the play store for a good one to try out.  I didn't really know what I was getting myself into, of course.  The next thing I knew, I had already downloaded Sweet Scandal, Office Lover, Midnight Cinderella, and Angel or Devil.  

Why is it that the dialogue in these games are so laughably terrible, but I'm still playing them?! I'm half-cringing yet half-smiling as I repeatedly push next like some hungry vulture devouring its prey.

Ok, let's get to the heart of the issue here.  Why should otome games be illegal?

1. They are addicting. 

Otome games are basically the equivalent of cocaine and meth in the otaku game world.

2.  The dialogue is badly entertaining.

I feel like I'm reading poorly written fan fiction by a twelve year old. How can dialogue that cheesy be so enthralling?!

3. I keep spending money.

Well this is slightly embarrassing, yet true.

For those of you who don't know by now what an otome game, they're basically romantic and/or erotic visual novels typically targeted towards females.  You can buy them for the pc, consoles, and you can also download free ones on your phone.  Right now, I personally am just sticking to the mobile games because of the free download aspect.  (Although there are plenty of in-game ways to blow your money)

I say that otome games should be illegal in a joking manner, but in all seriousness they truly are quite addicting and fun.  The otome game world has its fair share of shitty ones, but there are plenty of popular and well produced games in existence.  If you've never played one before, don't be scared to try it out.  You'll be pleasantly surprised.
